The Dance

  • The dance is taken from Brazil, Porto Seguro (Bahia).  The dance in its fullest includes, spins, turns, acrobatics and dips.  It combines a number of Latin Partner dances to produce a poetic interpretation of the melody or lyrics.  When danced to Zouk music it's about rhythm, freedom of expression and sensuality.
  • The people of the French Caribbean are protective over their music and proud of their own dance that accompanies it.  When the dance was first demonstrated on the island by the Brazilians, they refused to call the dance Zouk.  Instead they referred to it as Zouk Lambada. This is what it is commonly known as throughout the world today.
  • You are not restricted to dancing to Zouk music.  Once mastered the dance can be used to many RnB songs.
  • The dance and music is appreciated world wide.  It currently has a huge following in London, New York, Holland, Spain, Sao Paolo and Porto Seguro.  Some of the other places it has started are Japan, France, Italy and Wales.
